Album Review: Call Me If You Get Lost

If you like rap, then Tyler, the Creator has released the perfect soundtrack for your summer travels. Call Me If You Get Lost is Tyler’s return to rap after the fusion-filled Igor. Based on comments he has made in the past, there was speculation that he would never release another rap album, so it is no secret that — since the rap-filled album teasers Tyler dropped a few days before the album’s release — fans have been beyond excited. This album hearkens back to the time of mixtapes, leaning heavily on collaboration and the sharing of ideas and sounds. Tyler was able to select the perfect artist to collaborate with him for each track, utilizing their particular skills and allowing them to shine. The album is hosted by DJ Drama and features 42 Dugg, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne, Teezo Touchdown, Domo Genesis, Brent Faiyaz, Fana Hues, DAISY WORLD, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrell Williams.

One of the best things about this album is how well all of the songs flow together. Most of the songs are less than three minutes, with the exception of two tracks: track ten, “Sweet/I Thought You Wanted to Dance” and track fifteen, “Wilshire.” Unless one is closely paying attention, it’s difficult to notice when one track changes to the next. However, that is not to say that all of the tracks sound alike, because they certainly don’t. Rather than each track having a different sound from the start, it changes mid-track.
